Despite the dry summer, southern Germany's pumpkin harvest is expected to be average with potentially smaller pumpkin sizes due to the heat. The Association of Bavarian Farmers anticipates no significant issues, as pumpkins are heat-loving crops that can slightly tolerate drought. However, extra irrigation may be necessary for good-sized and quality pumpkins. Ornamental pumpkins could ripen early due to heat, which could affect their durability for Halloween. Bavaria, with its 1,040 hectares, leads Germany in pumpkin production, followed by North Rhine-Westphalia with 969 hectares. The Hokkaido pumpkin, known for its versatility, is the most popular variety.
