President Dina Boluarte of Peru has set a goal to increase the country's potato production to over 5.4 million tons, making it a challenge for the government, regional authorities, and farmers. The president made this announcement during the 'Harvesting Diversity, Feeding Hope' fair, held to celebrate International Potato Day. The event recognized two potato producers and showcased over 300 potato varieties. The National Agrarian University of La Molina (UNALM) also held a symposium to address the challenges faced in potato cultivation, including the decrease in native varieties and issues in production and management. The symposium emphasized the importance of high-quality seeds in mitigating potato pests and diseases.
