In the first quarter of 2023, import prices for frozen and fresh fillets in the United States decreased by 9% compared to the previous quarter, but increased by 10% compared to the same period last year. In Brazil, the average price of whole tilapia fillets was US$6.45 per kg, while frozen whole tilapia was priced at US$2.08 per kg. The production of tilapia is expected to increase in 2023 due to lower feed prices and logistics costs, with Asian countries and China dominating the trade, while producers in Latin America, Africa, and South Asia continue to increase production.
