Trump strikes deal to lower tariffs on India, saying Modi agreed to stop buying Russian oil

Washington — President Trump announced Monday that he and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi have agreed to a trade deal that will lower tariffs on products from India to 18% and halt India's purchase of Russian oil. In a post on Truth Social, the president said Modi also committed to buy American products at a much higher level and purchase more than $500 billion in U.S. energy, technology, agriculture, coal and other goods. The president said India will buy more oil from the U.S. and "potentially" Venezuela. "He agreed to stop buying Russian Oil, and to buy much more from the United States and, potentially, Venezuela," Mr. Trump wrote.
