A presidential decree in Türkiye has increased the tariff quota for date imports from Palestine from 3,000 to 5,000 tons, in an effort to maintain trade with the Palestinians despite Israeli restrictions. This move comes as a response to a significant decrease in exports since Israel's military offensive on Gaza last year. Türkiye, led by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has been a strong advocate for Palestinian statehood and has entered into a free trade agreement with Palestine. In 2022, the trade volume between Türkiye and Palestine reached around $900 million, with steady growth since 2020. Türkiye has also stopped all exports and imports to and from Israel in protest of the ongoing humanitarian tragedy in the Palestinian territories.
