Spain: Two new outbreaks of Sheep and Goat Pox confirmed in the province of Granada

With these two, the cases recorded in Andalusia rise to 13 (12 in the province of Granada and one in Almería), according to sources from the Andalusian Government. The suspicion arose from the appearance of lesions compatible with the disease in animals and the Official veterinary services of the Junta de Andalucía proceeded immediately, following the established protocol, to take samples and send them to the Central Laboratory of Algete. The samples have been confirmed as positive by RT-PCR and sheeppox virus sequencing. Immediately, the Ministry has adopted the control measures contemplated in Delegated Regulation (EU) 2020/687 regarding the rules related the prevention and control of certain diseases, which includes the slaughter of animals, disposal of carcasses in the processing plant, official cleaning and disinfection of the farm, establishment of a 3km protection zone and a 10km surveillance zone, with reinforcement of biosafety and surveillance measures on farms, as well ...
