(Jeju=Yonhap News) Reporter Park Ji-ho = Jeju City announced on the 8th that a large number of peanut-growing farms on Udo Island have recently obtained the Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) certification.
A total of 79 farms, covering an area of 114 hectares, have obtained the certification. This accounts for approximately 77% of the total peanut cultivation area on Udo Island.
This achievement is quite rare in a single crop-growing region, and it is expected that Udo Island peanuts will establish themselves as a reliable food product for consumers based on the GAP certification.
Udo Island peanuts have evolved beyond simple raw product production to include various processed foods such as peanut ice cream, peanut makgeolli, and peanut snacks, and have firmly established themselves as a representative regional specialty brand.
The city views this GAP certification as an important milestone that will significantly enhance the brand value and competitiveness of Udo Island peanuts.
GAP certification is a national certification system that minimizes potential hazards in all processes from the production, harvesting, and distribution of agricultural products to provide safe agricultural products to consumers.
Certified agricultural products undergo thorough management of residual substances such as pesticides and heavy metals, and workplaces and storage facilities are also managed hygienically according to legal standards.
