The UK saw its highest monthly pig meat production since March, with a 6% increase from October, reaching 102,000 tonnes. This increase is largely due to a 8% rise in clean pig slaughter to 995,400 head, despite a slight drop in average carcase weights. However, year-on-year production has decreased by 2% due to heavier carcase weights from the previous year's backlog. The total pig population has shrunk by 2.5% to 5.19 million head, with a 15.2% decrease in the overall breeding herd, primarily due to a loss of 56,000 sows. The industry continues to face challenges, leading to a reduction in the number of fattening pigs.
