Ukraine is projected to have a record watermelon harvest of 239.2 thousand tons in 2024, marking the highest yield since the invasion, as per Maxym Hopka, an analyst with the Ukrainian Club of Agrarian Business. This is a significant recovery from the significant reductions in watermelon and cantaloupe production in 2022 and 2023 due to military operations. The cultivation patterns have shifted, with Kherson Oblast no longer leading. There has been a notable increase in the planted areas for watermelons and melons in 2024, despite challenges like heavy rainfall and high temperatures. This development highlights the resilience of Ukraine's agricultural sector and its ability to adapt under challenging conditions.
