Ukraine is poised to join the ranks of the world's seven largest poultry meat exporters, according to Vladislava Magaletskaya, the Head of the State Food and Consumer Service. This ambition is supported by the country's current position as one of the top ten global exporters of chicken, as demonstrated by its first half 2021 export figures, which show a total of 217 thousand tons of poultry meat and 442.5 million eggs exported to 96 and 55 countries respectively. In response to the ongoing epizootic situation, Ukraine has successfully regained its bird-free status, thanks to an effective bird flu control program, a development that has been recognized by several international partners. The country is also taking steps to expand its export markets, recently opening up to Ethiopia and Liberia, with plans to tap into more opportunities in Asian and African markets. Additionally, a notable decision by the OIE to classify outbreaks of avian influenza on private farms as non-trade affecting is expected to further boost Ukraine's poultry export sector.
