Seed potato growers in P.E.I. are facing challenges as the industry remains impacted by the cessation of potato shipments to the US in 2021 due to potato wart detections. Despite the lifting of the ban on potato exports to the US, restrictions on seed potatoes persist, effectively banning shipments to and from the island. These federal restrictions, which have no end date in sight, have significantly diminished seed potato sales from P.E.I., causing concern for the future of the industry.
