US potato export value +19%

US potato exports reached a record value and volume in the period July 2022 - June 2023. The export value increased by 19% to € 2 billion and the export volume increased by 3.8% to 3.3 million tons (fresh weight equivalent). The export value of US potatoes increased in all categories (frozen potato products, fresh, dried, seed potatoes and crisps) by double-digit values in all categories except seed potatoes. The increase in exports was led by mashed potato flakes and crisps, which increased by 25.6% and 11.1% respectively. In total, about 20% of US potatoes are exported. From July 2022 to June 2023, Mexico became the United States' largest potato export market for the first time, followed by Canada and Japan. In May 2022, the entire Mexican market was opened to US potato exports. The value of US exports of frozen potato products rose 20.4% to €1.2 billion, despite a 4.5% decline in volume from the previous 12 months.
