South Africa is set to achieve a record mandarin export volume of 560,000 tons in the 2022/23 campaign, marking an 8% increase from the previous year, due to higher production and robust international demand. The European Union and the United Kingdom are expected to be the primary recipients, accounting for 45% of the total export volume. This growth comes amidst global challenges such as declines in mandarin production in China, Morocco, and Turkey, due to adverse weather conditions. Additionally, the global production of oranges and lemons is anticipated to decrease due to similar challenges, leading to a potential drop in consumption, industrial use, and exports. In the European Union, the production of both oranges and lemons is projected to decrease by 4% due to drought in Spain.
