USMEF directors Sabrina Yin and Arrofi Satrio Alam have met with the Indonesia Meat importers to discuss the opportunities and challenges for U.S. red meat in Indonesia. The U.S. pork market share in Indonesia has seen a significant increase from 11.5% in 2023 to 38.5% in 2024, largely due to reduced supply from the European Union. The U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) has been promoting U.S. pork at upscale retail outlets in targeted markets to grow awareness and differentiate it as high-quality. There are also opportunities for U.S. beef in Indonesia, particularly for middle meats in high-end foodservice and modern retail, and underutilized cuts and variety meats in foodservice and wet markets. However, the plant approval process is the most extensive of any country, making it a challenge for U.S. beef in Indonesia.
