Taiwanese seaweed farmers are looking forward to a bountiful harvest of purple laver, a type of seaweed, during the December to January peak harvesting season. This seaweed is expected to generate over NT$10 million (US$330,000) in revenue. The purple laver thrives in cold climates with strong winds and is commonly found in Penghu, but is also grown in saltwater farms. The seaweed is valued for its unique texture and nutritional benefits, and is more expensive when wild, due to its rarity.
