In March, Vietnam witnessed a significant surge in star anise exports, reaching a record 998 tons, a 79% increase from the previous year, with a value of 5.4 million US dollars. A notable 65% of these exports were to India, marking a 178% increase from the previous month. Despite this surge, the first quarter experienced a decline in export volume and value by 27% and 38% respectively, compared to the previous year. China and the United States remained significant markets, though exports to these countries also saw a decline. By 2023, Vietnam's star anise exports had grown by 26% year-on-year, reaching a value of 83 million US dollars and a quantity of 16,136 tons, with India becoming the largest market. The cultivation of star anise in Vietnam is mainly in Lang Son and Cao Bang Provinces, covering 40,000 hectares and producing over 16,000 tons annually.
