[Livestock and Fisheries News=Reporter Hee-kyung Ahn] Violations of origin labeling for processed duck meat products, such as smoked duck, are on the rise, making countermeasures urgent. According to a self-conducted survey by the Korean Duck Association, there has been a sharp increase in cases of origin labeling violations for imported duck meat recently. Particularly, the origin of processed smoked duck sold in large-scale supermarkets and famous online malls is not properly labeled, such as Chinese-origin smoked duck, leading to consumer confusion, which highlights the urgent need for measures. In fact, according to the import quarantine statistics of the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency, Chinese duck meat, which was 5,518 tons in 2019, more than doubled to 12,909 tons last year and this year.
