Watch: blockades at Foynes and Galway ports end as cabinet to meet

Cabinet is to meet at 4pm this Sunday afternoon where a multi-million euro fuel support package will be presented. The meeting takes place as the Garda public order unit cleared blockades at Galway Port and Dublin's O’Connell Street on Sunday morning, which had been in place for up to five days. The protest and blockade at Foynes ended at 1pm on Sunday. It came following a vote taken by the people who have been at the protest at the port over the last five or six days, Independent Ireland TD Richard O'Donoghue said. Farmers, contractors and hauliers leaving the port of Foynes in Limerick at 1pm on Sunday, ending the blockade at the port. A number of ways to get supports to farmers were discussed at meetings between farmers, hauliers, contractors and Government on Saturday, including payments to farmers on a per-hectare basis, payments per machine, a comparison of fuel receipts from 2025 and Basic Income Support for Sustainability (BISS) data.
