The UK is gearing up for its eighth annual celebration of the British pea harvesting season, set to take place from 3 – 9 July. Initiated by the British Growers Association (BGA), the week aims to highlight the significance of the homegrown pea industry and the involvement of some 700 farmers in producing around 2 billion portions of peas. As the largest consumer and producer of frozen peas in Europe, the UK enjoys a 90% self-sufficiency in pea production. The harvesting process, which lasts between six to eight weeks, involves advanced technology and careful coordination among growers. This year's event not only honors the humble pea but also aims to educate the public about the complex journey of peas from field to consumer.
