The National Federation of Poultry Farmers (Fenavi) in Colombia reported a 2.9% growth in the poultry sector in 2022, but an 4.6% decrease in egg production due to the pandemic and roadblocks, as well as a reduction in investment in laying birds. The sector faces high costs due to increased prices of corn and soybeans, leading to a 38% increase in production costs in the past two years. Additionally, the sector has seen the effects of avian influenza. However, chicken production has seen a recovery, growing by 7.3% in 2022, the highest in the past five years.
