The Directorate-General for Food and Veterinary Medicine (DGAV) of Portugal has called for increased prevention measures against African Swine Fever (ASF) due to the disease's spread in Europe and globally, especially in wild boar populations in countries like Italy, Poland, and Greece. The disease has been introduced in Albania and Montenegro, currently affecting 14 EU member states with over 3,000 outbreaks in wild boars and 110 in pigs from January 1st to May 13th this year. The DGAV is urging various stakeholders, including producers, traders, transporters, hunters, and veterinarians, to report any suspicion or occurrence of ASF in pigs and wild boars to prevent its introduction into Portugal.
