The Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe (GMAZ) announced an increase in the prices of mealie meal and flour due to a review by the Grain Marketing Board and depressed supplies from the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which are the world's largest wheat producers. The price of maize has been increased by ZW$43 000 to ZW$50 000 per metric tonne, leading to a 15% increase in the retail price of 10kg Roller Meal and a 14,74% increase in the price of bread flour. The war in Ukraine has also surged the price of wheat, leading to anticipated increases in bread prices. Zimbabwe, as the region's biggest net importer of Russian wheat, is struggling to maintain sufficient supply amidst locally initiated measures to ensure availability of bread nationwide.
