In 2023, Ecuador saw a record high in shrimp export volume, reaching nearly 1.2 million tons, marking a 14% increase from the previous year. Despite this, the export value fell by 5% to US$6.29 billion due to a decrease in the average price per kg. China was the largest consumer of Ecuadorian shrimp, accounting for 59% of exports, followed by the EU and the U.S. The increase in export volume did not offset the decline in export prices.
