Pakistan's sesame seed exports to China showed a remarkable increase to USD 250.85 million from Jan-23 to Nov-23. This reflects a significant year-on-year (YoY) increase of 112% compared to USD 117.85 million during the same period last year. Furthermore, Pakistan's export of sesame seeds to China in 2022 was USD 128.44 million, compared to USD 120.44 million in 2021. This consistent surge in demand positioned Pakistan as a significant supplier in the global sesame seed market.
The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) collaborated with the Ministry of Commerce to launch a strategic project to strengthen Pakistan's position in the global sesame seed export market. The project involves awareness sessions on international market trends in major sesame-growing areas, including Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan. The inaugural seminar was held in Lasbela in collaboration with Lasbela University of Agriculture Water and Marine Sciences, with growers, farmers, agriculture extension officers from Balochistan, and other stakeholders in attendance.
Sesame seed inventory at Huangdao Port, China, witnessed a month-on-month (MoM) reduction of 13.43% and a substantial YoY decrease of 26.47%, reaching 122.5 thousand metric tons (mt) on January 3, 2023. From December 28 to January 3, inventory input increased by 4.57% MoM and decreased by 9.27% YoY, totaling 8,563 mt. Inventory output for the same period amounted to 15.38 thousand mt, indicating a 2.37% MoM increase and a 9.88% YoY decline.
