In W32 in the macadamia landscape, the global macadamia nuts market, valued at USD 1.13 billion in 2020, is projected to reach USD 1.39 billion by 2027, at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 2.6% from 2021 to 2027.

The Ministry of Energy and Petroleum of Kenya, in collaboration with the county government of Muranga, is launching the Kenya Energy-sector Environment and Social Responsibility Programme Fund (KEEP) to rehabilitate riparian land along the Mathioya River. This four-year, USD 312.06 thousand (KES 45 million) project aims to counter soil erosion and siltation of the Mathioya dam by planting trees and fodder along a 10-kilometer stretch of riparian land on both sides of the river. The initiative will enhance soil conservation, water catchment, and power generation at the KenGen-owned Wanjii station. Over 70 thousand tree seedlings of avocados and macadamia have already been planted, with high survival rates reported despite challenges such as theft of fruit seedlings.

Uganda's National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS) has implemented a nucleus farmer strategy to promote the cultivation of high-value crops like macadamia nuts and avocados. This initiative aims to harness the economic potential of these crops due to global demand. Since its launch in August 2022, the strategy has distributed 137.03 thousand macadamia seedlings.
