In W33 in the salmon landscape, Norway exported 95.6 thousand tons of salmon in Jul-23, worth USD 897.7 million (NOK 9.6 billion), a 1% year-on-year (YoY) increase in volume and a 13% YoY increase in value. Norwegian salmon export value to China increased by 90% in Jul-23, reaching USD 21.5 million (NOK 230 million), with a 59% YoY increase of 3.2 thousand tons. This is due to the high demand for salmon in the Chinese market and the catering industry returning to pre-epidemic levels. Furthermore, Norwegian salmon prices have dropped in W32, with the Nasdaq Salmon Index (NQSALMON) reporting an average price of USD 6.96 per kilogram (NOK 74.18/kg) of Atlantic salmon farmed in Norway, a 5.95% week-on-week (WoW) decline. Norway exported 21 thousand metric tons (mt) of salmon in the past week, an increase from 20.1 thousand mt in the corresponding week of 2022.

Scotland's salmon exports for the first half of 2023 increased by 9%, reaching USD 388 million (GBP 306 million). Salmon Scotland reported a solid first half, with high demand and tight supply pushing the prices to increase. Salmon Scotland reported a significant increase in non-European Union (EU) exports, reaching USD 166.9 million (GBP 132 million), an increase of 18% YoY compared to a 3% YoY increase in EU exports. Taiwan had the largest value increase, importing USD 11.3 million (GBP 9 million) worth of salmon in H1-2023. The United States (US) remained the largest non-EU destination for Scottish salmon, with a 10% YoY increase in value to USD 97.3 million (GBP 77 million).

The Chilean government promotion agency reports that the country’s seafood exports in Jul-23 amounted to approximately USD 788 million, an increase of 15% YoY. Meanwhile, the overall export value of Chilean salmon and trout increased by 8.5% YoY to USD 482 million. Chilean salmon and trout exports experienced remarkable growth in the Chinese market during Jul-23. The total export value of these products from Chile to China saw a substantial increase of 127% YoY, reaching USD 43 million.

In the past seven months of 2023, 14.1 thousand tons of Turkish salmon were exported from the Eastern Black Sea Region, reaching a value of USD 91 million. Turkish salmon exports increased by 118% in volume and 97% in value compared to the same period of 2022. Lastly, the Federal Agency for Fisheries reported nearly 480 thousand tons of fish caught in Russia, three times more than in 2022 and 27% higher than in 2021, indicating increased productivity and leanness. Moreover, the price of pink salmon head-on gutted (H/G) continued to decline during W33, with Russian companies offering it at approximately USD 1,800/mt for H/G sea frozen, Grade 1. Despite the significant price drop compared to the previous season's price of around USD 3,600/mt, Chinese buyers remain hesitant to make purchases.
