Peruvian Grapes Gaining Prominence in the Japanese Market

Peruvian grapes are making waves in the Japanese market with a new promotional campaign launched by the Association of Exporters (Adex), the Table Grape Producers of Peru (Provid), and the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Exports and Tourism (Promperú). Peru's Commercial Economic Advisor in Tokyo, Japan, has revealed that the campaign will specifically target Ito Yokado supermarkets in Tokyo, with 60 activations scheduled for February 3 and 4. Supported by Mitsui Foods and the Promperú Commercial Office in Tokyo, the initiative aims to boost the export of Peruvian table grapes to Japan. The President of the Adex highlighted successful coordination with the National Agrarian Health Service (Senasa), resulting in the shipment of a container carrying 2 thousand boxes of Allison variety grapes in Oct-23. As of Nov-23, Peruvian grapes secured the 5th position in the rankings of agro-exports with added value to Japan.

New Grape Varieties Will Dominate 64% of Chilean Exports

The Fruits of Chile Table Grape Committee has released its third export estimate for the 2023/24 season, anticipating shipments to exceed 62.46 million boxes, reflecting a 3.3% year-on-year (YoY) growth compared to the previous year. Although this new estimate is 1.9% YoY lower than Committee's second estimate in Nov-23, there is an anticipation that new varieties will make up 64% of the total exported grape volume, underscoring the industry's dedication to cultivating grapes in demand by the market and adapted to diverse growing conditions. North America remains the primary market with a 57% share, reflecting an increase from the previous season's 50%. The report details the expected export quantities of various grape varieties, highlighting the growth of new red, white, and black varieties in the Chilean table grape market.

Ukraine's Grape Imports Experiencing a Decline YoY in 2023

This marks a decrease from 2022, where 42.43 metric tons (mt) of grapes were imported for USD 55.73 million. In 2021, grape imports peaked at 80 thousand mt with a value of USD 69.68 million. While in 2020, the figures were 59 thousand mt and USD 57.80 million, respectively.
