W41: Grapefruit Update

In W41 in the grapefruit landscape, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) predicts a 5% year-over-year (YoY) increase in Florida grapefruit production, with red varieties expected to reach 1.65 million boxes, while white varieties remain stable at 250 thousand boxes. Meanwhile, Texas grapefruit production is expected to decline slightly from 2.25 million boxes last season to 2.2 million boxes in the 2023/24 season. As for Californian grapefruits, it will go from 4 million boxes last year to 3.5 million in the 2023/24 season.

New Zealand plans to remove the quarantine requirements for citrus products like lemons and grapefruits from select countries, including Vietnam. This initiative was set in motion following an agreement between the two nations in Nov-22 when New Zealand's Prime Minister visited Hanoi to expand the export opportunities for Vietnamese citrus.

Lastly, ASAJA Alicante predicts that grapefruit production in Spain will only reach 1.36 billion tons in the 2023/24 season due to unfavorable weather, including a major hailstorm that hit regions in Spain that produce grapefruits.
