In W41 in the tuna landscape, for the first nine months of 2023, Vietnamese tuna exports totaled USD 623 million, a 23% year-on-year (YoY) decline. Meanwhile, pangasius exports in the same period amounted to USD 1.4 billion, with a YoY decrease of 31%. Despite these declines, pangasius exports have shown signs of recovery in markets including China, Mexico, Brazil, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States (US).
In the South Kuril zone, Russia, tuna fishermen had a successful season, with a catch of 165.2 metric tons (mt) by September 30, 2023, exceeding the recommended limit of 99.9 thousand mt by 65%. As a result, further tuna fishing in the area must be halted to maintain sustainable levels. Additionally, fishermen in the Northern Basin effectively met the recommended flounder catch, with a total catch exceeding 8 thousand tons by October 2, 2023, slightly surpassing the suggested limit of 7.94 thousand tons.
