Brazil imported 2.6K MT of mandarins up to February 2023, an increase of 90.7% YoY. Spain was the main supplier, with 71.9% of the imported mandarins, followed by Egypt with 28.1%. The imports of Egyptian mandarins started in 2022 and have seen a positive increase. For 2024, it is forecasted that the imports from Egypt will equal the volumes of mandarins from Spain.

Israel

False Codling Moth Found in Israeli Mandarins (Mar 22)

Israeli mandarins have been found to contain Falsa Cydia (Thaumatotibia leucotreta), putting exporters on high alert. To avoid further damage, the Spanish professional association of citrus exporting companies (Comité de Gestión de Cítricos, CGC) has requested cold treatment for all citrus fruits that may present the pathogen. Cold treatment must be imposed on imports from all countries that have declared the presence of the insect, South Africa, and Israel, and on all citrus species that could 'host' it. The cold treatment requires monitoring the temperature of the central part of the fruit (the pulp) through at least three probes, and the temperature programmed during processing must be the same during the treatment.
