The Durian Harvest Area in Thailand Increased by 4.85% (Dec 22)
Mr. Winit Athisuk, Deputy Secretary-General of the Office of Agricultural Economics (SorPor.), the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives revealed the result of the first round of forecast and the situation of fruit production in the eastern region in Thailand for 2023. Due to price incentives, farmers have been steadily increasing their durian planting areas over the past few years, resulting in durian having fruitful areas of 351,546 rai, an increase of 4.85%. It is expected that durian will be available from February to October 2023.
Due to the unfavorable weather conditions for the flowering and fruiting of the crops in Thailand, some farmers reduced the maintenance of longkong, rambutan, and mangosteen crops to provide care for durian crops as it gives better returns. Continuous rain since November 2022 caused some fruit trees to produce soft leaves instead of flowering.
