Shortage of Spanish Mandarins in the Brazilian Market During December 2022 (Dec 19)
The Spanish citrus for the 2022/23 crop is suffering from a shortage of larger calibers and volumes, mainly affecting the clementines varieties of mandarins harvested in December 2022. Mandarins at the Brazilian market CIF-Santos are around USD 13.79/10kg per box for cat1. The shortage is forecasted to decrease by January 2023, with the murcotts variety.
Australia
State of Australian Citrus Exports Including Mandarin as of W50 (Dec 20)
As of W50 of 2022, there were 217,699 tonnes of oranges and mandarins shipped from Australia, which is a decline from the 239,030 tonnes exported at W50 of 2021. Breaking that down further; orange exports alone in 2022 are 143,637 tonnes compared to 160,626 tonnes, while mandarins had slightly less of a decline from 78,404 tonnes in 2021 down to 74,062 tonnes in 2022.
South Korea
Onju Mandarin, Hallabong, and Cheon Hye-hyang citrus fruits are now available for export to New Zealand. The export quarantine discussions for Korean mandarin oranges and mandarins to New Zealand ended on December 12th. After pears (1999) and grapes, Korean citrus fruits are now the third product to be shipped to New Zealand.
Russia
Due to the Western Black Sea storm in W51, vessels full of fruits from Turkey to Russia have been waiting for ten days. It is predicted that the vessels will have to wait longer because there will be a storm again on Monday in W52. Since most of the products were going to Russia, the largest exporters stopped packaging and loading. It affected the price in orchards, especially of the mandarin as it does not have a long shelf-life. Producers have lowered the price of mandarins on trees from USD 0.64/kg to USD 0.43/kg, down 33.3% in W51 to be able to sell.
