Drought Soars Lentil Price in Turkey

The wholesale price of dried red lentils in Turkey rose to 1.26 USD/KG in W4 December 2021. The price increase was driven by the drought that hit lentils in 2021. Although the planted area is expanded by 30% for the next season, if the production is as low as in 2021, it will increase the price further. In addition, imports that return to normal in 2022 as the surge in COVID-19 demand has ended will make supply low.
