For the first time since the collapse of the USSR, Russia has resumed its own production of lactose. The production created in Stavropol is the only one in the Russian Federation located on the basis of one of the dairy factories. They use technology developed and patented by local scientists. In the future, the Stavropol Territory will produce about 5KMT/year of lactose - a fifth of this raw material that is used in Russia. Last year, about 18KMT of high-quality lactose worth 4Brub were supplied to the country. Due to the availability of imported lactose, domestic enterprises are not interested in developing such industries and investing in a new business. This is due to the peculiarities of the technological process. There are no large cheese-making companies in Russia where it would be profitable to produce lactose. Obviously, the situation in the country with the production of lactose will change only when the number of cheese producers grows and the domestic whey processing product becomes cheaper than the imported one.
