One major challenge in shipping palm kernel expeller (PKE) from Indonesia is the inability to send a small amount of it via air-freight for sampling purposes. This commodity is categorized by air-freight forwarders as high-risk or dangerous goods, hence cannot be transported to the destination country via air. This issue forces potential buyers to rely on laboratory reports or certificates of analysis provided by suppliers to measure and identify the quality of PKE. As of now, the only viable solutions are for buyers to go to Indonesia and check the PKE products themselves or source 2-3 MT of it and have it sent via a sea-freight forwarder.
