In the span of August to September 2020, the national palm kernel expeller industry has successfully exported around 7KMT of palm kernel expeller (PKE) to India. Palm kernel expeller has been one of the most sought-after palm kernel derivative commodities so far in 2020, as this commodity has emerged as an excellent alternative for animal feed, especially in the production of beef and goat meat. Based on the data released by the exporter, palm kernel expeller usually contains 20-22% protein and can be mixed with other ingredients for animal feed by as much as 30%. Aside from India, other countries in the Southern Asia region such as Pakistan and Sri Lanka have also expressed their interest in PKE, and would possibly start exporting PKE from Indonesia by as early as the first quarter of 2021.
