The growth of the packaged-milk industry in Indonesia in the span of 2019-2020

In the span of 2019-2020, the packaged-milk industry has been one of the fastest-growing sectors in Indonesia and now has also become the second biggest packaged beverage industry after the tea beverage industry. In the past 12 months, this industry booked a 10% growth, even during the coronavirus pandemic where this industry could still record a 3% growth in the span of January to June 2020. Nevertheless, this industry is still pretty much dominated by the big-sized manufacturers with access to advanced machinery, and in order to cope with the growth in demand for the packaged milk, the majority of these manufacturers should still source around 80% of their cow milk powder and fresh milk ingredient from major exporting countries such as New Zealand and Australia, as the national industry has not had an adequate supply for raw materials.
