Our Fresh Sweet Potato from Portugal
In Portugal, Sweet Potato is mainly produced in the South-eastern Coastal Area and offered almost all year round, from October until June.
Sweet potatoes are tubers rich in fiber, vitamins A, C, and B6, and an excellent source of carbohydrates. There are several cultivars that we can divide into two main types: with bright orange flesh or with pale cream flesh. The orange-fleshed variety is also rich in beta-carotene.
Sweet potato is grown by our partnered supplier who is a wholesaler specializing in the sale of cherry tomatoes, sweet potatoes, and herbs, wants to take advantage of Comporta's international reputation to boost sales in foreign markets of sweet potatoes produced in this Alentejo region. The supplier has a yearly production capacity of 10 thousand tons to export worldwide. Exports absorb 60% of 10 thousand tons production, with Spain, France, Belgium, Germany, and Italy standing out among the main sales destinations.
