Lucrative prospects for lime market in Europe with price fluctuations

The European lime market has improved over the past two weeks, with fewer shipments from Brazil and an increase in demand. Basic demand is increasing to such an extent that category II fruits are also being used more frequently, a sign that the product is gaining more appeal. At this time of year, the main producer supplying the European market is Brazil, with the prospect of a new crop to coincide with the summer season, a time when limes are traditionally consumed more. However, heavy rains in the country will slow production and reduce supply. A strong local market holding good prices may also play a role, with fewer exports to Europe. Asia has continued demand from Europe, with Vietnam the main player for several years, but it went through an unusual period of low quality in 2023 and now faces longer shipping times due to Red Sea issues. For the USA, as always, the dominant supplier is Mexico with complementary volumes from Central America, mainly Guatemala and Honduras. Colombia is increasing volumes to about 100 cargoes per week, which is a large volume for Europe but for the US accounting for about 15% of imports. Peru contributes about 25 cargoes per week to the US.
