AFRECO was launched in 1978 wherein Jean-Claude Gombert was one of the two founders. It rapidly grew in the export of agricultural raw materials from West Africa. Its products are Kola nuts, sesame, shea butter, cashew nuts, medicinal plants, and coloring plants are some of the many products it supplies internationally.
AFRECO's potential organic production is seen in the distillation of melegueta pepper, turmeric, and neroli. In 2008, it started offering essential oils, vegetable oils, and butter through Agriland.
