Wheat flour consumption in Thailand continues to rise

TMILL, the major wheat flour producer and distributor in Thailand, states that the production and distribution of wheat flour of this year may not be very high because the production has to be limited to maintain costs and keep an eye on wheat production from the global market. All the factors, including seasonal factors and transport in 2022, directly affect the business. Concerning the demand for wheat flour, consumption is still expanding. The wheat flour price of the last year is USD 0.39 per kg, and the current price is USD 0.55 per kg.

In Thailand, there is a continuous growth trend. The main raw material for wheat flour production is wheat, a grain that grows well in cold environments and cannot be grown in the country. Therefore, it is necessary to import, and types of grain that Thailand regularly import is as below:
- US Hard Wheat: Dark Northern Spring ("DNS") and Hard Red Winter ("HRW").
- USA Soft Wheat: Western White and AUS Standard White.

Meanwhile, it is estimated that in 2022, Thailand will import more than 2.5 million MT of wheat. The import ratio by country of origin is as follows: The United States(55%), Australia(25%), Canada(15%), and other countries(5%).
