According to FAMA, banana plants are the second-largest fruit crop after durian in Malaysia. This is due to the high demand for bananas in the domestic market for use in many traditional dishes and desserts. On the export market, the total value of banana exports in 2016 was RM34 million and continued to increase to RM40 million in 2017. Malaysia exports bananas to Singapore and Brunei.
