Poultry farming is one of the sectors most affected by the coronavirus (Covid-19). The losses amounted to nearly 1.5 billion dirhams, according to the National Association of Poultry Meat Producers.
Professionals in the Moroccan poultry sector no longer know where to turn. Indeed, they speak of “historical losses”. In the “broiler” sector, they are around 1.2 MMDH, against 290.6 million DH for the “turkey farming” sector. Basically, the losses thus exceed 1,490 MDH, according to a study carried out by the APV, in order to assess the gravity of the situation.
According to the Association, these losses are mainly due to an abundance of stocks of unsold live poultry at farm level, to the collapse in demand, caused by the closure of the main distribution points (restaurants, snacks, rotisseries, weekly souks) …).
