A sudden appearance of toxic microalgae in Chile's coastal waters warms the salmon farmers. Some companies anticipate the harvest in the most affected sites to avoid higher mortalities rates. This unexpected microalgae bloom is due to the increased water temperature, probably exponentiated by climate change, which brings this new microalgae community to the surface and chokes the fish stock. This will likely lead to an increase in price per kg and smaller harvested salmon.
