(Pyeongchang=Yonhap News) Reporter Im Bo-yeon = In order to compensate for crop damage caused by natural disasters and contribute to the income and business stability of farmers, Pyeongchang County in Gangwon Province will support up to 90% of the agricultural disaster insurance premiums. When natural disasters such as heavy rain, hail, typhoons, frost damage, and heavy snow occur, the county will support the preservation of losses to crops and horticultural facilities as much as possible. Pyeongchang County has supported a budget of 520 million won for 2025 for the insurance premiums of 2,189 plots covering 791 hectares, and plans to provide maximum support for the area applied for by farmers who join the agricultural disaster insurance in 2026 as well. Eligible applicants are individuals or corporations that cultivate insured crops in the region and are registered in an agricultural business entity. The items that can be insured include 13 types of fruit trees, 11 types of staple crops, 15 types of vegetables, 4 types of special crops, 8 types of forest products, 3 types of mushroom crops, and 24 types of facility crops, totaling 78 items. Farmers can inquire and apply by visiting the local agricultural cooperative when the enrollment period matches the item. Ji Young-jin, head of the Agricultural Product Distribution Division of the county, said on the 3rd, "Agricultural disaster insurance is an essential insurance for agricultural businesses to compensate for damage to crops and horticultural facilities from unpredictable natural disasters, so we hope for the interest and participation of many farmers."
