Ben Tre, Vietnam's leading coconut-growing province, is preparing to begin fresh coconut exports to China following a new agreement on phytosanitary requirements. With over 79 thousand hectares (ha) of coconut cultivation producing more than 700 million fruits annually, Ben Tre generates over USD 400 million in coconut exports yearly. The province has aligned 133 designated growing areas with the new export protocols, involving over 12.8 thousand households across nearly 8.4 thousand ha. Around 20.4 thousand ha of Ben Tre's cultivation also follows organic standards recognized by markets like the United States (US), European Union (EU), and China. The province aims to expand the organic coconut area to 20 thousand ha by 2025, to reach USD 1 billion in export turnover shortly and USD 2 billion by 2030. Authorities are focusing on attracting investment and adopting advanced technology to enhance production and processing, ensuring sustainability and increasing the value of coconut exports in domestic and international markets.
