The Brazilian ginger harvest season commenced in W20, and prices have already witnessed a significant increase. Initially, wholesale domestic prices were around USD 14.35 (BRL 70) per 12kg box. However, as of W23, prices have surged to approximately USD 26.65-30.75 (BRL 130-150) per box. The rapid escalation in price can be attributed to two main factors. Firstly, there has been a decrease in Chinese ginger production this season, creating international pressure and resulting in higher prices. Additionally, there is a surge in domestic demand driven by the upcoming June/July festivities, further fueling the price surge. There is an expectation that ginger prices might reach as high as USD 41 (BRL 200) per box in the forthcoming weeks if the market continues to experience high demand.
