The price of Portuguese carob has risen due to stronger demand and increased health concerns

Portugal is the largest producer of carob, followed by Italy and Morocco. The Algarve region is one of the main producing regions, of which the production area is almost 13,300 hectares.

Over the past five years, the price of carob has risen from USD 5.57 per 14.7kg to USD 47.60. The stronger demand and increased health concerns have driven the prices up.
