Increased European dependence on pork exports to China

China accounts for 62.3% of total EU exports of pork and pork products.

Data on European exports of pork products to China during the first 9 months of this year are situated at 2,429,711 MT, representing 62.3% of total pork products exported by the EU and an increase of almost 65% compared to the same period of the previous year. Exports to China, from January to September, already exceed the value of exports for the entire year 2019 (2,419,030 MT).

Considering all destinations, in the first nine months the EU has already exported a total of 3,901,118 MT. This is 20.2% more than in the same period last year. Behind China, a long way away, is Japan with 275,151 MT (7.1% of the total), followed by Hong Kong (166,550 MT), South Korea (150,015 MT) and the Philippines (104,769 MT). These figures show the great European dependence on exports to China.
