Indonesian is already self-sufficient for the consumer (for retail market) potato products. There have been almost no more import of this product category since the last 3-4 years except for the industrial needs such as for chips and french fries production that still depend on imports. The key exporter countries for the products are the EU, the US, Canada & Australia. The Indonesian government is targeting to be fully self sufficient soon, through the potato seeds development program. The program is aimed to find the alternative varieties that are competitive to the Atlantic varieties but suitable to the climate & soil characteristic in the country.
